Military dogs are a critical part of our Armed Forces, saving lives on and off the battlefield by sniffing out deadly explosives and weapons caches, detecting and engaging the enemy, and providing comfort and a sense of home to our service men and women in almost unimaginable circumstances.  American Humane and its Lois Pope LIFE Center for Military Affairs believe it is time to recognize these courageous canines with the nation’s first “American Military Hero Dog Monument,” to be placed in Washington, D.C.

We are currently inviting design submissions for this new monument from professional and amateur artists, sculptors, designers, veterans, and ordinary American citizens to help create a permanent physical tribute honoring all military dogs for their valor. 

The American Military Hero Dog Monument design search is open to all U.S. citizens. Interested parties must submit their designs below by December 31, 2016. America will then have the opportunity to weigh in on the designs and a panel of distinguished judges will choose the winning entry, which will be unveiled at the American Humane’s annual Palm Beach luncheon on March 8, 2017. American Humane and the Lois Pope LIFE Center for Military Affairs have sole rights to approve, reject and select design submissions.

The winner, if able and approved by American Humane and the Lois Pope LIFE Center for Military Affairs, may be commissioned to sculpt the monument. Otherwise, an artist will be appropriated a commission to skillfully craft the designed monument. The American Military Hero Dog Monument will be unveiled in Washington, D.C. at a location and date to be determined.

In the event that my design is selected by American Humane Association for use for the Lois Pope LIFE Center for Military Affairs’ “American Military Hero Dog Monument,” I hereby grant American Humane Association, its affiliates, assigns, subsidiaries, representatives, agents, consultants, agencies, contractors and partners, and its and their sales, advertising, marketing, promotion, distribution and merchandising affiliates, assigns, subsidiaries, representatives, agents, consultants, agencies, contractors and partners, and/or any person or entity authorized by American Humane Association or its licensing representative(s), sole and exclusive permission to artwork and design that I submit to American Humane Association as well as my name and any related image(s) and/or story(ies) and related materials and any derivations of the foregoing, in any way for advertising, trade, commerce, fundraising, publicity, promotional purposes and/or for the creation, sale, distribution, advertising and related purposes of merchandise and/or materials to benefit (in whole or part) American Humane Association, in all formats, whether now or hereafter known, worldwide, in perpetuity, and without compensation or other consideration, prior notice, approval or inspection. I represent, warrant, and covenant that I am the sole owner and creator of such artwork and design submitted. I acknowledge and agree that American Humane Association cannot guarantee that my artwork and/or design will be used for its “American Military Hero Dog Monument”.

For all submitted artwork and designs, whether or not selected for use for the “American Military Hero Dog Monument”, I understand and agree that any artwork, design, images and other materials will become the property of American Humane Association and will not be returned and that I will not have any rights to any materials related to my artwork and design, or as otherwise covered hereunder. I hereby hold harmless, release and forever discharge American Humane Association, its affiliates, assigns, subsidiaries, representatives, agents, consultants, agencies, contractors and partners, and its and their sales, advertising, marketing, promotion, distribution and merchandising affiliates, assigns, subsidiaries, representatives, agents, consultants, agencies, contractors and partners, and/or any person or entity authorized by American Humane Association or its licensing representative(s), and each of their parent and subsidiary entities and affiliates, and each of the foregoing’s officers, directors, employees, contractors, affiliates, volunteers, agents, representatives and assigns, from any and all claims, demands, causes of action, obligations, liabilities and expenses, known or unknown, direct or indirect, which I, my heirs, representatives, executors, administrators or any other persons acting on my behalf or on behalf of my estate have or may have by reason of this authorization.
